Duncan Dobson New United Media is the general heading for the oeuvre of Duncan Calvin Dobson, III also known as Anaerobe. Duncan attempts to work in multiple media, namely painting, writing, and music, while employing a consistent aesthetic sense, that of a person inextricably enmeshed in the immediacy of the present who is at once acutely aware of the effects of history and context. Duncan is especially fascinated with the accidental/unintentional in art; the recycling and recontextualization of existing figures, whether visual, audio, or linguistic; and Op-Art. His main inspirations are Warhol, Rothko, John Cage, Banksy, Leigh Bowery, Emily Dickinson, e. e. cummings, and all jungle massive. Born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, Duncan grew up in the Bay Area, and, having traveled extensively, chooses to live and work in San Francisco.
