Simultaneous Windows is the third suite in bassist/composer Bill Noertker's Blue Rider series, a collection of compositions inspired by the art of Paul Klee, Wassily Kandinsky, Franz Marc, Robert Delaunay, and Alexei Jawlensky. The Blue Rider group coalesced around the notion of the "inner necessity" of true art, which can be expressed in very different forms and styles. The rich sonic palette and inimitable avant-melodic chamber jazz stylings of Noertker's Moxie create a diverse and vibrant array of aural paintings that evoke the playful chromaticism and ceaseless spiritual questing of this important group of painters.

In the last decade, Bill Noertker has composed over 175 original pieces of music for jazz ensemble and has released seven CDs on Edgetone Records. His compositions point to the continuity between the jazz tradition and the avant-garde. His use of group improvisation and his attention to the individual voices of each of his bandmates call forth the human element so sorely missing from much of today’s jazz.

"The title track is a sinewy chamber-music journey, made more mysterious by the inclusion of oboe as a lead. “St. George,” with its improvised horn blaring, has the feel of two or three marching bands each trying to start different songs. And criss-crossing flute and sax mark the opening of “Caliban,” a track that develops into a sparse free improvisation."
